PUPPY

Welcoming a puppy into your family is an exciting time, full of joy, laughter and snuggles. It is also a big responsibility. The first few months together play a crucial role in their development. This critical period lays the foundations for their future and determines whether they become a well adjusted and confident dog that is a pleasure to be around. Guiding your puppy through this stage can be a challenge and requires a knowledgeable support network. Knowing the right thing to do when your sweet puppy turns into a baby shark, jumps all over the family, howls when you are out of sight, and defecates everywhere except outside can be quite overwhelming. This interactive 6 week course is designed to support you and your new family member through this process.
Puppy School consists of 2 x 45 minute private training sessions and 6 group classes. The first private training session will be before the group classes commence to prepare you for the course and answer any questions you have. The second private session is available for you to use upon completion of the group classes and is valid up until your pup has their 1st birthday. The 6 group sessions run for an hour and will have up to 10 puppies in each class. Pups must have had their first round of vaccinations and be aged between 8-12 weeks when they start. The group classes are held in doors at a venue north of the river on a Saturday. Please note that these classes are not puppy play sessions and during class everyone must respect the space of the other puppy/ human teams.
With layered learning we are able to build solid foundations and create a shared language, setting your puppy up for success every step of the way. Over the six weeks your puppy will build confidence while being introduced to new stimuli in a safe and encouraging environment. They will learn that focusing on you is the most rewarding thing to do in the face of distractions. We will explore the different types of training techniques and how puppies learn. We cover everything from house-training to husbandry, how to create calm behaviours and impulse control, as well as basic obedience and fun tricks. We emphasize the importance for training to be comprised of joy and clarity, that strengthens your bond and is enriching for you both. There will be games and challenges for each puppy/handler team during class as well as exercises to practice at home. By the end of the six weeks you and your puppy will be armed with the skills and confidence to take on the world together.
